The Oxnard business community can add a new member to its ranks. Del Norte Distribution opened its doors for business on January 15, 2008. The new distribution company moved into the 126,000 square foot facility on Del Norte Blvd vacated by Cardinal Restaurant Supply. Del Norte Distribution is a third-party warehouse which is- essentially- a contracted warehouse. Companies that are not large enough, or do not wish to have their own warehouse and warehouse personnel, contract with the third-party warehouse to manage their inventories and ship their products. Jim Sullivan, the General Manager of Del Norte Distribution, stated “our service is really ideal for internet-based companies or any company that have fluctuations in volumes; instead of being stuck with a big fixed cost each month, one simply pays for the inventory we manage.”
In addition to general dry goods, Del Norte Distribution stores refrigerated fresh produce and frozen product as well. In the upcoming weeks Del Norte Distribution will install several banana ripening rooms and expand the refrigerated portion of the facility. Jim Sullivan elaborated further stating, “A large part of our business will be to service the produce importers and exporters shipping through the Port of Hueneme. “
Port Hueneme has become the West Coast hub of the international fresh produce market and Del Norte Distribution is poised to capitalize on its location adjacent to the upgraded Rice Avenue corridor linking the port to the US 101.
